Well this week has been interesting to put it mildly!
Just when everything is going so well something happens that really throws you.
On Thursday night we spent the night in the Emergency Department with poor little Braden. It all started on Tuesday when Braden came home from family day care feeling a little bit average. Being a new Mum and not really sure whether it was just some teeth coming through or something more I took Braden to the Dr on Wednesday. The Dr said he had an inner ear infection and an inflamed throat and just to monitor his temperature and give him some panadol or nurofen. So already I was feeling a bit guilty as he has just started family day care and I was warned he may get sick but this is the first time in 7 months he has been unwell so it was a bit of a shock to the system that it happened so quickly!
Later that night he was definitely out of sorts and quite hot, we’d kept up the nurofen but sticking to the guidelines as we didn’t want to overdo it. At about 2am after me not sleeping at all and being with Braden most of the time he started to get REALLY hot and I checked his temp and it was about 39, I quickly stripped of his t-shirt and was holding him as it was the only thing that stopped him crying when he started to have a fit, this is when I lost it. I’m just so glad Cam was home as he was meant to go away for work this week. Cam took charge and grabbed Braden while I ran around like a headless chook trying to find a phone and ring the ambulance. It took 15 long minutes for the ambos to arrive and for at least 10 of those Braden was having a fit. To see your baby so helpless is indescribable and one of the aspects I like the least about being a Mum. We both just wanted it to stop and help him but there was nothing we could do. Once the ambos arrived they took over and were great, I was a crying mess and not really functioning too well, thank god Cam held it together! So we spent the next few hours in emergency just monitoring Braden. It seemed to take forever for him to come back around and was a bit out of it for a while. This was heartbreaking as we just wanted some reassurance that our normally very smiley little man was ok. Anyway it turns our febrile convulsions due to a fever are quite common in little ones and as long as they don’t stop breathing for extended periods generally everything is ok. So Braden is ok, still a bit out of sorts but we are just happy that he’s smiling at us again as he truly is the most precious thing in the world.
So that’s been my week. I’m just getting over it all as yesterday I had ZERO sleep and last night Braden woke up screaming every two hours which has left me feeling a bit worse for wear. I had grand plans to do rpm and body pump this morning but during the night I switched off the alarm as I knew that there was no way I was going to manage it on another night of no sleep.
So a week out from my photos and yesterday I spent the day eating biscuits, chocolate and endless coffee’s. Luckily today I’ve snapped out of it and am making every last day count. As tired as I am I’ve just done my last big run before the City2Surf next Sunday and I’m about to hit the gym for some weights. I could spend the day getting frustrated and feeling sorry for myself but the reality is %*!t happens and you have to deal with it and move forward. In a way it kinda makes my upcoming photos a bit more meaningful as I may not be the leanest I’ve ever been but I know I’ve worked really hard but also LIVED LIFE AT THE SAME TIME! For me this is more important that being on a strict diet for weeks on end and having no life. I like to enjoy but I also like to achieve and for the first time in my life I actually feel like I’m doing it.
So on that note if you’ve had a crappy day or week, it’s not the end of the world. Look at today and see how you can make it great and just keep doing the best you can.
Take Care and make sure you go and give those special people in your life a big hug as family and friends truly are the most important thing out there!!!
I’m off to do some weights & hopefully the little man will be fit to fly by next Wednesday!
Lots of Love, Hilds

WOW, poor little man. I had a very similar week with Cooper with fever and infection but not to that extent. Must've been very scary. I am so glad to hear that Braden is starting to feel better though.
You're story did make me feel more motivated (as always) I had a very average week too, as you know, but I am ready to put that all behind me and get back on track. Thanks for your inspiration.

Hi Tarnie & Lianne, thanks for the comments.
Lianne, I hope Cooper is feeling much better as it's not nice when your little one is sick.
I'm glad my blog made you guys realise that I'm just normal and the key really is to JUST KEEP GOING!!! I'm not perfect and never have been as I truly believe it's unrealistic.
Hope this week has started well.
Luv, Hilds
