Well I’ve done it and LOVED IT! I think I’ve found a new hobby, doing shorter fun runs around the country!
On Sunday I did the City2Surf along with my sister Lucy. It was a great experience although a bit busier and colder than I would have liked. The day started by getting up pretty early and heading down to the breakfast buffet for some serious carbs, raisin toast with jam for me along with a nice coffee. From here it was out into the cold and wet Sydney streets. Me being from Cairns the weather was a shock to the system and made worse by the fact we had no jumpers as we wouldn’t have been able to get them to the finish line, we later discovered we could have worn a jumper and left it there to get donated to charity! (so would have done that).
The town was a buzz as you can imagine with 85.000 people running in the worlds biggest fun run. We got going at a cracking pace, NOT! It took a good five or so minutes before I was even running as we were all packed in like sardines. Once up and running it took a while to find my pace and I spent the next 14 hilly km dodging people. It was a great run but one of the most frustrating as you had people walking while others were jogging and it was a real battle just to run in a straight line for more than a minute.
Anyway I survived and really enjoyed it, hills and all. I finished up with a time of 1:18 minutes and you can check out my full race details here: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/106862322
After the race I was excited to finish although this quickly turned to worry as I’d discovered the phone networks were jammed (too many people trying to use their phones all at ones) and I had no way of finding Cam, Braden, Lucy & Paul and I was FREEZING my butt off! Luckily enough I found Lucy coming through the finish line shortly after me. We then finally got hold of the boys although we misunderstood their directions and were stuck for 1 ½ hours in the cold! I was so close to getting one of those silver blankets from the red cross. Finally we found them and we finished the day off with a nice glass of red and a yummy lunch.
I have to say a HUGE congrats to my sister (so proud of you), who ran the whole 14km after just 7 weeks of training. We are now going on to do the City to Bay in Adelaide in another 5 weeks (that one should be easy, 12km downhill!!!)
Hope everyone is great, my life can’t get much better at the moment!!!
Love, Hilds

Well done Hildes,
How has your milk gone with your training etc? I have started trying to lose some baby weight but I am having heaps of trouble with my milk supply (currently on tablets). Worried that if I cut down my calories too much it'll impact my milk? How have you gone?

Hi Kelly, I've been really lucky with breastfeedinga and have had heaps of milk so never really had any issues with losing weight and maintaining breastfeeding.
I think as long as you continue to eat well and don't cut your calories too drastically at once you should be fine. Even when I was eating quite lean as long as I kept up my water and didn't NOT eat it was ok. Ultimatley you just have to monitor things and if your milk is getting affected then look at increasing the calories a bit. This doesn't mean adding junk but adding some more good food. I hope all is going really well.

I have never run in a marathon, but think it would be a great achievement. Congratulations!
