Well week 2 didn’t go so well!
It started on Sunday when my new treadmill stopped working. This was a real bugger since I use it for most of my cardio and is one of the main ways I can get my running done. Having a baby and having constant rain doesn’t allow me to get outside much for a run, so knowing my treadmill was broken was not so good. Anyway I could deal with it as I knew I could at least use the spin bike and had decided to change my weight routine to something a bit more high intensity which would also help burn a few more calories.
The first few days of the week were ok until we found out that Cyclone Yasi was coming! After the news of the Cyclone we basically spent every minute getting organised and moving nearly all of our house contents downstairs as we were expecting to lose the top of our house. It was all a bit daunting and it’s not something I really want to experience again. The good news is that Cairns ended up missing the worst of it and after a night of sleeping in the downstairs bathroom we all survived just fine. We did end up losing power for a few days which was quite uncomfortable as we had no aircon, fridge etc. We actually ended up checking into a hotel as Braden was getting a heat rash and we had lost all our food and the downstairs got a bit flooded and made everything smell. So as you can imagine, training and eating well wasn’t high on my priority list. For sure I could have eaten a bit better but I suppose I decided just not to care for a few days! It actually reminded me how much I turn to food when I’m stressed. Some people don’t eat whereas I just crave CHOCOLATE bad. The bad news was that when I did my cyclone shopping I purposely didn’t buy any junk food as I thought that if we didn’t have it we couldn’t eat. I REALLY regretted this about 11pm on Wednesday night as the wind was getting worse and we were bunked up downstairs waiting for the cyclone to hit. All I could think is I would kill for a block of chocolate right now and all I had was a mini protein bar!
So anyway the worst is over and we are back into it. The hardest thing now is just getting re-motivated and getting the energy to get back into the gym plus the fresh food supplies are pretty dismal at the moment. I’ve also got no treadmill as the guy wanted to come and look at it yesterday although it would have been a bit tricky with no power! It just means the spin bike will be my best friend this week.
I’ve actually decided I need to just focus on one good training session a day as I’m finding I’m getting a bit run down with still doing the night feeds and with everything else that has been going on. I’ve started to notice my breastfeeding isn’t as good which means Braden doesn’t sleep as well so I need to make sure I eat well, drink heaps of water and don’t get myself too run down.
So yesterday was the start of week 3 and we were pretty lazy although now I’ve done a big shop up and organised my training for the week.
So I might have had one crappy week but it’s not going to stop me from making some great progress anyway. KEEP MOVING FORWARD REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS!
TRAINING LAST WEEK:
1 X WEIGHT SESSION
1 X INTERVAL (running on the treadmill)
1 X 5.3KM HILL
1 X 45 MINUTE RPM CLASS
1 X 5KM PRAM WALKS
NUTRITION:
CRAP! It was going ok from Saturday to Tuesday and then it all went downhill. No real excuse, just found it all too hard with the Cyclone and decided to be lazy rather than make an effort to eat really well. (the stress got the better of me!)
WEIGHT LOSS: NONE, although didn’t put any on which is a bonus.
LOST NO CM’S – STAYED THE SAME
JOGGING none due to broken treadmill and cyclone!
Feeling a bit annoyed that my second week is so crap but have learnt that it’s not the end of the world and I just need to get right back on track and keep going!
Hardest things so far –
Having a crappy week so early on.
Realising it’s going to take some serious work to get where I want to be.
Strugging a bit with finding the balance between exercise, losing weight and breastfeeding.
Anyway it’s only one week, there is plenty more weeks to go for me to make some great changes.
I hope everyone is safe and well and didn’t get too badly affected by Cyclone Yasi.
Cheers, Hilds

Glad to hear you and your family are safe.
Dont be dissappointed in your week 2, what would you tell a client in the exact same position? new baby, cyclone to deal with etc etc
Good idea to drop to one session a day! Breastfeeding your bubs is importent and if hes unsettled it wont all work out for you anyway.
