Yes, it happens to me too! Last week I turned into a BINGE monster, I haven’t done this for years but when it hit it hit hard. At least this time I know the reason and can do something about it.
Last week I got my period for the first time in 18 months (one of the bonuses of having a baby!) and when it came it really affected me. Before having Braden periods never affected me too much, for sure I craved a bit of sugar and felt a bit average but this time around things were a bit more out of control. I was a moody cow (Cam, will agree with that) and I had really bad chocolate cravings.
So what did I do? I did exactly what I know I shouldn’t have! I went to the shops and came home with Chocolate, Ice-cream and Tim Tams and then Cam and I (Cam was happy to join in even though he really had no excuse) demolish them all! Obviously afterwards I felt quite ill and then a bit down that I had eaten thousands of calories in such a short space of time.
So yes, I’m normal, VERY normal & it was a good wakeup call for me to start getting back into a routine. Normally I could deal with a situation a bit better than this but at the moment as I have no goals I’m struggling a bit.
This year has seen me achieve some big goals and I’m feeling pretty good.
What I’ve now discovered well actually been reminded that I’m a big “goal” person. If I don’t have a goal to work towards I struggle, get a bit lost and lose my drive. So now it's time to set myself some goals again and get refocussed. Tomorrow I’ll put up my new goals so you can see what’s going to keep me focussed.
Also next time that time of the month comes around I have a plan of attack!
Here are a few things that have worked for me in the past.
- Know my period is coming and be aware.
- Realise my moods might change and it’s a good time to get outside for some more runs or walks as this ALWAYS makes me feel better.
- Increase my good fats in my diet. I find eating a bit more good fats and actually less starchy carbs (even though that’s what I’m craving) helps me get through it.
- Remember it’s only a few days that are really tough and if I can just stay in control (not perfect) and get through the days the best I can I’ll come out the other side feeling pretty good.
- Don’t weigh myself around my period as the scale is always going to be affectd and who needs to know they’ve put on a kilo or two overnight when it’s really not fat, just fluid!
Anyway I’ll be back soon with my updated goals as you guys will be keeping me accountable again!
Hope everyone is doing great and have a fabulous week planned.
Luv, Hilds
