About Me

I'm a 32 year old health & fitness fanatic! I run "Get Active Online" with my wonderful hubby Cam and when I'm not training others I'm off flying all over the countryside as a Flight Attendant. I strongly believe in practicing what I preach so this blog is all about my personal health & fitness journey, plus lots of good training & nutrition info.
If you have a question you want answered or just want to say hi, please leave me a comment.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

THE LAZY GYM JUNKIE!
January 06, 2010 at 07:38:48 Did you ever think a gym junkie could be lazy? Well I think they can......
There is a big difference between looking great and leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Obviously many of us strive to look great, but do you want to just look great or actually be fit and healthy and FEEL great because there is a big difference.
Going to a gym you notice such a big variety of people and it's VERY interesting to watch everyone's routines. What I have noticed is that you can look great although be quite unhealthy!
Are you one of those people who goes to the gym every day although finds the nearest park to the shops, never walks anywhere and does very little additional activity. Do you reward yourself with some sweets because you've exercised today!
Sometimes it's easy to forget the importance of incidential exercise and just keeping active. I know personally I've been bad for this in the past. I'd go to the gym heaps although outside of the gym I was lazy!
I have noticed since moving back into our house how much more active I am each day, I get out more and seem to just be moving more and it makes a huge difference.
What I'm trying to get at is never underestimate the importance of doing the little extras. Walk to the shops, take the kids for a ride, walk to the park instead of driving, take the stairs instead of the lift because it all adds up.
I know I would love to increase my general activity a lot more. For sure I might train hard each day but that's maybe 1-2 hrs out of my day, what happens to the rest of it. I think if you can get into the habit of adding in that incidential exercise now you will be so much better of later in life. You might not always be able to run so what do you do then?
So this week just try and make a conscious effort to be more active and see what a difference it can make.
Have a great day!

I had a competition with some girlfriends who could get the most steps on our pedometer in a week.
It's amazing what we got up to, adding in a little bit extra.. POST COMMENT |
